DJ PXH's House

“In the beginning he created a groove and with this grove he made his move and it set our souls free . . . ”

This was the call from Jack in the 1980's when house music first came into being. I discovered house music in the early 1990's and started DJing soon after. I had always been into dance music from the time I young, growing up in a small town outside of Detroit. My friends and I would listen to the “Mojo” show on the radio every Saturday night on WLBS. When I got old enough I started going to discos and clubs, and we would boogie down all night to the grovin funky hits of the day. Growing up close to Detroit gave me access to lots of funk and early electronic music. I remember the first time I heard Kraftwork on a local public access TV show out of Detroit called “The Scene.” A whole new way of looking at music opened up for me. I explored electronic music of all kinds. I started playing base and joined several dance/funk bands. In the late 1980's I started going to a club in Denver called “Rock Island” and this is where I got my first taste of House music. Going to more clubs and party's, I got into the music and the vibe. It was a very influential time in my music career. It was at this time a friend and I started Human Head Transplant. During the ten years we were together as a band, we played all sorts of music—rock, pop, electronica, punk and even a little funk. But it wasn't until later when I started to make some of my own house tracks. After a while I took my first set of decks out for a spin at a party and was instantly hooked. I loved mixing the beats and building a grove. Spending so much time in clubs I had learned a lot from watching and listening to many DJs. After a while I started to develop my own style of deep house with a little bit of techno mixed in.
