The Band and its Music Human Head Transplant was founded in 1984 as a renegade electronics trio, and continued to perform until the early 1990's. The Denver-based Human Head Transplant created a well-defined niche on the north American underground. Employing a unique blend of exotic rhythm, lush soundscapes and complex computer arrangements, HHT offered a dynamistic tour de force performance style that enthralled audiences nationwide. With only a handful of releases to their credit, HHT functioned primarily as a live group, having performed over 50 concerts, media events and radio broadcasts with such noted acts as Einstursende Nebaten, Haters, Gercehtickeits liga, Monochrome bleu, Crash Worship, Hunting Lodge and Psychic TV. Their music was best be described as the unity of chaos and the elegance, a sonic map charting the DMZ between tranquilly and turmoil. With the band's second release HIC ET UBIQUE UNO AMINO, Human Head Transplant made many wonder why bother with the visual aspects of entertainment in the fist place. The conjured scenes of a sweaty rain forest pregnant with danger; the dark cavernous brig of an alien space vessel; the whitelight rooms of a psycho ward; the sensuous pulse of an inner-city street. While much of the music hinted at cerebral detachment, there remained a pungent urgency and edginess on many cuts. HHT created a form of art which required only the listeners imagination to make it work. |
